Now that there is medical marijuana available to certain people in Florida, many residents are wondering how they can access it. While some of your appointments can be conducted virtually – over video chat on your tablet, phone or laptop – others must be in-person. Many of our patients are glad that at least some of the appointments can be carried out from the comfort of their own homes.
To learn more, please call Access Marijuana RX at 727-209-5470. Dr. Lora Brown and our staff will make sure you get all the information you need.
What the Law Says
Your very first appointment must be conducted in-person with Dr. Brown. If she makes a medical marijuana recommendation, you will be entered into the state medical marijuana registry. Once you receive your medical ID, you will be able to obtain medical marijuana in 70-day supplies. Here’s where the virtual appointment comes in: To renew your 70-day supply, you can have a quick virtual appointment with Dr. Brown. This appointment allows Dr. Brown to renew your medical marijuana recommendation to the state. You can continue doing this until 30 weeks have passed since your initial appointment, at which point you will need to have another in-person appointment with Dr. Brown.
Your Virtual Appointment
Some people can really benefit from virtual appointments. Certain health conditions can make getting out of your home and to the doctor’s office painful, uncomfortable and inconvenient.
These are the nine health conditions specifically covered by Amendment 2:
- Epilepsy
- Cancer
- Glaucoma
- ALS
- Multiple sclerosis
- Parkinson’s disease
- PTSD
- Crohn’s disease
- HIV/AIDS
There is wording in the law that also states a physician may recommend medical marijuana for other medical conditions that are comparable to the ones specifically mentioned.
Although you will sometimes need to visit Dr. Brown in-person, these virtual appointments provide a good amount of convenience to people living with these health conditions.
Why You Should Visit Dr. Lora Brown
Dr. Brown has been working in the field of interventional pain management for almost two decades. She understands the challenges her patients live with on a daily basis, and she is driven by improving their lives through medical marijuana, which is not prone to being addictive and is not open to overdose as is the case with many pharmaceutical painkillers.
She has studied medical marijuana extensively and is glad to be able to offer her patients a way to reduce their pain and other symptoms without using opiate-based medications and other types of medications. She has actively worked to curb the abuse of these medications, serving on the Florida Governor’s Drug Policy Advisory Council. She was the medical director for WAKE UP!, a campaign that sought to educate teens about the repercussions and risks of prescription drug abuse.
